Apa Nama Jalan Tu?

It all started with the name changing phenomenon which took place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was displeased by the notion of major roads getting new labels. Those names have been around long enough to be carved solidly in the minds of people living or working within the vicinity. Most of them even bore significant historical meaning, illustrating the yesteryears. To me,  those names are archives of identities. This swift change deconstructs the history of the place.

Therefore, I attempt to reconcile the conflict that I feel in the sudden change of road names.

Unlicensed street vendors rely heavily on services they provide to the urban population for survival. For the poor, goods and food are readily available at low prices. As for the middle class, they benefited from the affordable prices offered.

Significantly, street vending is an important source of employment in the informal sector. A silver lining to most trying to make both ends meet, it is sadly considered illegal, as they possess no legal status to conduct their business.

Home, Sick attempts to address the dilemma faced by an urban society. With city planners, policy makers and the urban society striving for a more structured, organised and clean city, the initiative to prohibit street vending remains an endless discourse.
